While I studying sculpture as an undergraduate,
I always asked myself,
‘Why am I trying to make this?’ before beginning my piece.
However, having a set reason blocked my creativity.
To remedy this, I started working from images that randomly came into my head and then asked,
‘Why did I make this?'
Randomly observing and touching nearby objects, I sculpt whatever image occurs naturally to me. As I then gaze upon it for a long period of time, other images will come to my head and with those I can create a new sculpture to overlay the previous one. Continuing on in this vein, the sculpture begins to resemble a puzzle with the pieces all mixed together, growing like vines
